County sets public hearing on annexation

CANFIELD -- Township trustees will object to the annexation of 18.5 acres on state Route 446 to the city.
Property owner Victor Rucci has petitioned Mahoning County for the annexation, and the county commissioners are going to have a public hearing on it at 10 a.m. April 17 at the township hall, said Canfield city manager Charles Tieche.
Trustees have hired an attorney from Akron who specializes in annexation issues, and they will object at the hearing, said trustees chairman Paul Moracco. He said the objection is primarily the loss of land.
"They're chipping away at us," said zoning inspector Dave Morrison. He said the acreage, at 6445 state Route 446, is mostly fallow farmland with a residence on it.
Through annexation, the property owner will be able to receive city water and sewer services.
Attempts to reach Rucci to ask him what his plans are for the property were unsuccessful.
