Boy scrambles out of house to avoid arrest

YOUNGSTOWN — A 17-year-old Halleck Street boy found sitting on his bed with a shotgun slung over his shoulder bolted from the room, knocking his girlfriend and mother into a police officer as he ran from the house around 11:50 p.m. Thursday.

The mother had called police, saying her son was out of control and she wanted him and his 14-year-old girlfriend out of the house.

The officer, who had drawn his gun when he saw the shotgun, ordered the boy to put the gun down and intended to arrest him. However, when the boy saw the officer's handcuffs, he was able to run away, reports show. The shotgun from the boy's shoulder and another one found under the bed were seized.

Three additional officers arrived as backup. The mother then yelled at police and called them names and refused to provide any information about her son, saying she was going to have a heart attack, reports show.
