Beloit Elementary rash outbreaks clearing

BELOIT — District officials are celebrating the conclusion of the first normal school day at Beloit Elementary School since 35 students developed non-contagious dermatitis March 15.

Just one student was sent home with symptoms of the recurrent rash today, while classes resumed as normal, said Dr. Scott Weingart, superintendent of West Branch schools.

Beloit has been closed since Monday, when rash symptoms re-emerged in 11 previously affected students.

The district is awaiting results of state department of health and EPA tests conducted this week. Earlier tests by county health officials did not reveal the cause of the outbreak.

West Branch plans to resume with its normal schedule in all buildings next week, Weingart said.
