Streetscape celebrates its first decade



YOUNGSTOWN -- Streetscape, a Youngstown beautification program, celebrated its 10th anniversary by honoring businesses, organizations and individuals who have supported its efforts each year since its start.
The Wednesday event at the D.D. and Velma Davis Center at Fellows Riverside Gardens also marked the beginning of the fund-raising efforts of Streetscape, one of Youngstown CityScape's main programs. The Home Savings Charitable Foundation donated 10,000 to the Streetscape program at the event.
CityScape, a nonprofit organization, is also involved in education and historic preservation in the city.
Streetscape is focusing this year on a beautification project on East Federal Street, near the Realty Building.
During its 10-year history, Streetscape has raised and spent about 300,000 to improve the look of the city, said Sharon Letson, CityScape's executive director.
Those honored at Wednesday's event include: Alex Downie & amp; Sons, Butler Wick Corp., the city of Youngstown, Community Corrections Association, First Energy, First National Bank, Mary Gresh, John Lapin, Sue Marshall-Jones, the Men's Garden Club of Youngstown, National City Bank, Ohio One Corp., Packer Thomas and Scott Schulick.
Also honored was Claire Maluso, the city's Federal Plaza director, for her work with the organization and beautification efforts in the city.
