County official: AK Steelshould pay for lost taxes
HAMILTON, Ohio -- A Butler County commissioner wants AK Steel Corp. to compensate the city of Middletown for the income tax it will lose after the company moves its corporate headquarters.
Gregory Jolivette, commission president, sent the company a letter proposing AK Steel give Middletown 300,000 in each of the next three years. The company expects to move in August to the Cincinnati suburb of West Chester, taking 300 corporate jobs.
AK Steel should be able to spare 900,000 for Middletown considering its recent pledge of 750,000 to the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center in Cincinnati, Jolivette said.
