HOWLAND Avalon owner's earnings rise



HOWLAND -- The owner of Avalon Golf and Country Club earned 343,000 in the fourth quarter, which pushed its earnings for the year to 1.3 million.
The earnings for Avalon Holding Corp. were up slightly from year-ago figures. It earned 333,000 in the fourth quarter of 2005 and 400,000 for all of that year.
The company said Tuesday that net operating revenues last quarter were 10 million, compared with 8.5 million in the fourth quarter of 2005.
Net operating revenues for 2006 were 39.3 million, compared with 34.2 million in 2005.
The earnings were released after the markets closed. The company's stock closed unchanged Tuesday at 7.54. Over the past 52 weeks, it has traded between 4.35 and 8.24.
The company acquired Sharon Country Club last year. Members of Avalon Golf and Country Club now can play the Howland course, as well as the Sharon course and Squaw Creek Country Club in Vienna.
Avalon also provides waste management services in the Northeast and Midwest.
