Former Boardman cop led away in cuffs

YOUNGSTOWN — For five years as a Boardman police officer, Stephen Kendall worked to lock up criminals, this morning he was led away in handcuffs from a courtroom in the Mahoning County Courthouse.

Judge R. Scott Krichbaum sentenced Kendall to six months at Community Corrections Association, where the former police officer will receive sex offender counseling. Upon completing the six-month sentence, Kendall will be on probation for three years.

Kendall also must register as a sex offender for 10 years.

Kendall, 34, of Tippecanoe Road, pleaded guilty in January to a bill of information charging him with gross sexual imposition. A day before the documents were filed in court, Kendall resigned from his position as a Boardman police officer, a job he had held for five years.

The charge involved a 17-year-old girl.

A Mahoning County deputy sheriff handcuffed Kendall after this morning's court proceeding and transported him to the Mahoning County Justice Center. From there the former township officer is to go to CCA, which has a resdential facility on Market Street.
