June wedding for Miss Schaeffer and Mr. Juillerat
AUSTINTOWN -- The 65th wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Lad Sklenar, 62 Placid Blvd., was celebrated Feb. 17 during a family dinner party that took place at the Paprika Hungarian Caf & eacute;, Youngstown.Hosts for the event were the couple's children and their spouses, Dolores and Mario Iacone of Austintown, Dennis and Sandra Sklenar of Boardman, and Andrea and Joseph Lutsi, Alan and Lisa Sklenar and Kenan and Kathryn Sklenar, all of Canfield. There are also 15 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren in the family.
The wedding of Mr. Sklenar and the former Helen Nemergut took place Feb. 16, 1942, at Holy Name Church, Youngstown. They are members of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, where Mr. Sklenar is a charter member.
Mrs. Sklenar, a homemaker, is a member of the Altar and Rosary Society at the church and of its senior citizens club.
A U.S. Army veteran, Mr. Sklenar served with the 83rd Infantry Division during World War II, served in Normandy during the European Theater of Operations, and completed his military service in the Air Force. He was a member of the Civilian Conservation Corps in Montana from 1938 to 1939, and he was a foreman with U.S. Steel in Youngstown and retired in 1980 as a boilermaker and fabricating shop foreman.
Mr. Sklenar has been involved in all phases of parish development and diocesan activities, and organized such programs as St. Vincent DePaul Society, lectors and communion ministers and the soup kitchen at St. Columba Cathedral. He also participated in Cursillo 1 in Youngstown, and is a member of the senior citizens and the men's clubs at the church.
