Carneys celebrate 50th anniversary at surprise event

XCANFIELD -- The 50th wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. John Carney, 40 Willow Way, was the occasion for a surprise celebration held Feb. 17 at the home of a son and daughter-in-law, Brian and Laurie Carney of Poland.
Family members who also served as hosts for the event included Linda and Mark Borton and Kathy and Dave Evans, all of Mineral Ridge; Debra and Robert Russo and Maureen and Joel Beardman, all of Youngstown; and John and Susan Carney, Anthony Carney, Tim and Debra Carney, and James Carney, all of Canfield. There are also 16 grandchildren in the family.
Sacred Heart Church in Youngstown was the setting Feb. 16, 1957, as the former Marie DeVito and Mr. Carney were united in marriage. They are members of St. Brendan Church.
Mrs. Carney is retired after being employed at Republic Steel Corp. in Warren.
A U.S. Marine Corps veteran, Mr. Carney retired as superintendent of transportation at WCI Steel Inc. in Warren.
