SALEM — During this weekend’s Zadok Street Arts Festival, the Salem Historical Society Museum, 208 S. Broadway, will have several activities. Artist Don Getz will be in the museum’s garden of historical plans from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday with posters of the bicentennial mural he created last summer. A companion book describing the “54 blocks” has been prepared by Salem historian Dale Shaffer. Each of these 54 squares represents one of the lots in the original Salem of 1806. The museum also will have a sidewalk sale. Among available items are books on Ohio and a post card book. Freedom Hall and the Sprowl Garage will also be open for viewing on Saturday. Admission for Saturday will be waived but donations will be accepted. The museum will return to its regular hours of 1 to 4 p.m. on Sunday with an admission charge.

Bicentennial recognition

SALEM — The Salem Bicentennial Recognition Bench will be dedicated at 7 p.m. Sunday at Waterworth Memorial Park. The bench is sited near the band shell. The ceremony will take place during intermission of the Summer Concert Series performance by the Don Burns Orchestra. The concert begins at 6 p.m. The bench is a permanent, public acknowledgment of more than two dozen donors of significant funding or services to the Salem Bicentennial and Ohio Chautauqua celebration. Logue Monument Co. designed the bench made from oriental gray granite. The Salem Bicentennial logo designed by graphic artist Kristina Moore of Salem is engraved in the bench.

2 men sentenced

MERCER, Pa. — Judge John Reed of Mercer County Common Pleas Court sentenced two Trumbull County men recently. Darin Holland, 38, of Mahoning Avenue Northwest, Warren, was sentenced to one to six months in the Mercer County Jail and ordered to make restitution for conspiracy to commit retail theft, a misdemeanor. Court documents state he conspired with an unidentified person to steal a $1,288 television set from Wal-Mart, 1275 N. Hermitage Road, Hermitage. He was given credit for time served. Douglas Dahman, 22, of Kinsman, was placed on five years’ probation for corruption of minors, a misdemeanor. He was ordered to have no contact with the victim or any female under 16 without supervision. Court documents state that between July 30 and Sept. 30 2006, he had sexual intercourse with a 14-year-old girl at a Pymatuning Township residence.

Motorcyclist is ‘critical’

CANFIELD — A motorcyclist was seriously injured Thursday in an accident on Bedell Road. The Ohio State Highway Patrol said a motorcycle driven by Ray Best, 43, of Newton Falls left the road, hit a ditch, overturned throwing off Best just north of Leffingwell Road around 4 p.m. He was not wearing a helmet. Alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the wreck, the patrol said. Best was taken by helicopter to St. Elizabeth Health Center, where he was in critical condition late Thursday.
