Car strikes, kills Homeworth man, 88

HOMEWORTH — An 88-year-old Columbiana County man was hit by a vehicle and killed Tuesday as he walked across the street in front of his Homeworth Road home to get his morning newspaper.

Pronounced dead at the scene was Michael Luca of 248 Homeworth Road, Knox Township, according to the Lisbon Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

The patrol reports that Luca was crossing Homeworth Road east to west about 8 a.m. when he was struck by a northbound vehicle driven by Tina McCracken, 36, of Lynwood Drive in Alliance. Luca was thrown into the ditch on the west side of the road.

The police report says that McCracken was taken to Alliance Community Hospital for treatment. A hospital spokeswoman, however, said Tuesday night that there was no record of her being treated there.

No charges have been filed, and the accident remains under investigation, the patrol said.
