Girard Merchants 9, Niles Blue 8 — Girard came back from a 7-0 deficit with two runs in the fourth inning and seven runs in the fifth. Joe Tait gave up 10 hits in six innings and struck out seven. J.C. Aulet had three singles and Alex Baker doubled and singled for Niles Blue.
Girard Merchants 11, Niles Red 0 — Girard had nine hits, including triples from Nick Devore and R.J. Trimbur. Joe Augustine pitched a three-hitter in five innings with seven strikeouts and four walks. Kyle Borton led Niles Red with two hits.

Valley Sting 18U-Raybuck captured the championship of the 18-team ASA National Qualifier Tournament in Akron, earning a berth to the ASA Nationals in College Station, Texas. After losing the winners’ bracket final game to Grand Slam 1-0 in 10 innings, Valley Sting bounced back to win the losers’ bracket final as Tricia Bettura (Canfield) pitched a 13-7 victory over the Carolina Cardinals. Sting followed that up with Kasey Karr (Champion) pitching a 7-2 win over Grand Slam in the first championship game. Markie Pozzuto of Maplewood, after pitching all 10 innings in the earlier Grand Slam game, returned to the circle to defeat Grand Slam 3-1 in the second championship game. Pozzuto finished the tournament with four wins and Bettura and Karr each had two. Allie Patton (Poland) had 16 hits, 10 runs and eight RBIs; Jel Pugh (LaBrae) had 10 hits and 11 runs, and Chelsea Butler (Lakeview) had 10 hits and nine runs. Trisha Dreslinski (Ashtabula Edgewood) had nine hits, seven runs and five RBIs; Kari Thompson (Poland) had nine hits and five RBIs, and Monica Shorter (Chardon) had eight hits, five runs and six RBIs. Also contributing to the title were: Rachel Wolford (Ashtabula Edgewood), who played superb defense at third base; Nikka Bonamase (Ursuline) had five key hits and six RBIs, and Dar Bott (Ashtabula Lakeside) had five hits and five RBIs. In other games, Sting beat Ohio Ice Blue 7-0, lost to the Ashland Flames 5-2, then ran off victories over the Ohio Sharks (3-0), the Wizzards (6-4), Ohio Ice-Sanor (11-2), and Ohio Attack (5-0). Valley Sting’s record is 26-8.
