Scholarship awarded by Men's Garden Club

YOUNGSTOWN - The Men’s Garden Club of Youngstown presented a $1,000 scholarship to Paul Snyder of Paris, Ohio, during a meeting held June 6 at the community building in Boardman Township Park.

Snyder, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Joel Snyder, graduated from Minerva High School and will study horticulture at Kent State University, Salem Campus, beginning this fall. He works on the family dairy farm and at Mott’s Greenhouse in Louisville.

The Men’s Garden Club scholarship program was started in 1991 and is among the educational outreach programs that are part of the club’s mission.

The first scholarship was funded by Mary Laner, a teacher and the wife of long-time club member, the late Leno Laner.

The club scholarship is awarded each spring to a student planning to further his or her education in the field of ornamental horticulture, landscape design or allied subjects at any accredited college or university in the United States.

Applicants for the scholarship must be residents of Mahoning Valley. For further information, contact Lynn Hoffmann at (330) 774-1888.
