Tigers 5, Braves 0

ATLANTA — Kenny Rogers, making his first start of the season after a blood clot was removed from his pitching shoulder, allowed two hits over six innings to lead Detroit past Atlanta. The Braves were shut out for the third straight game, their scoreless streak stretching to 28 innings. It was the first time since 1988 that Atlanta has been the victim of three straight shutouts. The 42-year-old Rogers played a vital role in Detroit’s run to the World Series last year, but he needed surgery late in spring training when the clot was discovered in his left shoulder. After two rehab outings in the minor leagues, Rogers breezed through a Braves lineup that’s having trouble scoring. Rogers (1-0) gave up singles in the fourth and sixth innings. The Tigers broke up a scoreless duel in the sixth with five runs, all on two-out hits, against John Smoltz (8-4).

Cubs 5, White Sox 1

CHICAGO — Carlos Zambrano matched a career-high with 12 strikeouts as the Cubs handed their crosstown rival its 20th loss in 25 games. Alfonso Soriano homered off Mark Buehrle leading off the game and Aramis Ramirez, activated from the disabled list earlier in the day, added a solo shot two outs later. Zambrano (8-6) struck out seven of his first nine batters and finished with 12 for the fourth time in his career. He allowed three hits and one walk in eight innings. Paul Konerko homered in the seventh for the White Sox.

Marlins 5, Twins 4

MIAMI — Hanley Ramirez hit a tie-breaking homer with two outs in the eighth inning to lead Florida to its third straight win. Dan Uggla hit his 14th home run and had three RBIs for Florida, while Kevin Gregg pitched the ninth to earn his 14th save in as many chances. Minnesota’s Justin Morneau, who is second in the AL with 20 home runs, left the game in the eighth inning after being shaken up in a collision at home plate.

Mets 9, Athletics 1

NEW YORK — Tom Glavine picked up his 296th victory by ending a five-start winless streak. Glavine pitched into the ninth inning and added two hits and two RBIs. Shawn Green hit a solo home run and a two-run double, and Carlos Beltran homered and drove in two runs for the Mets, who won for the fifth time in 19 games in June. Glavine (6-5), whose previous win was May 19 against the Yankees, doubled and scored the go-ahead run in the second.

Dodgers 6, Devil Rays 3

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — Luis Gonzalez homered and had two RBIs, and Russell Martin hit a two-run single to lead Los Angeles. Gonzalez, who is from nearby Tampa, hit a solo homer in a two-run second and added an RBI triple in a two-run eighth that put the Dodgers ahead 6-3. It was his first home run at Tropicana Field since he hit the first one ever at the stadium while playing for Detroit on March 31, 1998.

Martin’s single gave the Dodgers a 4-0 lead in the fifth.

Blue Jays 9, Rockies 8, 10 innings

TORONTO — John McDonald hit a two-run single in the 10th inning and Curtis Thigpen scored the winning run on catcher Chris Iannetta’s throwing error, giving the Blue Jays a wild victory. Troy Tulowitzki’s two-run homer gave the Rockies an 8-6 lead in the 10th but Toronto loaded the bases in the bottom half on three straight singles from Matt Stairs, Aaron Hill and Thigpen. McDonald followed with a single to left off Brian Fuentes (0-1), scoring Stairs and Hill. Matt Holliday threw to the plate and Iannetta fired to third to try and catch Thigpen but his throw sailed down the left-field line. It was Fuentes’ third blown save.
