Canfield Lions seats first woman president


CANFIELD — Ruth Ann Cannell was installed as president of the Canfield Lions Club during a candlelight ceremony held June 7 at A La Cart Catering.

Cannell, who will replace outgoing president Phil Bova when she assumes the duties of the office July 1, will be the first woman to serve as president of the club since it was organized 29 years ago.

Prior to retiring, Cannell was a group leader at General Electric Co. She is actively involved with Angels Wings Therapeutic Riding Center and with various ministries at St. Charles Church.

Inducted as her associate officers were: Carolyn Phillips, first vice president; Peter Cannell, second vice president; Marilyn Schmidt, treasurer; and Ted Filmer, secretary.

Serving as board members will be Jeff Ahlquist, Jim Duncan, Chris Haus, Jack Patrick, Valorie Saluga, Ralph Schezzini, Chuck Tieche and Rich Yager.
