Nice performance: Warren JFK High graduate Jason Kokrak shot 80 on Friday at Oakmont to finish 16 over and miss the cut at the U.S. Open. He finished in a tie for 114th place out of 155 golfers. The cut was 10 over. Kokrak, who just finished an honorable mention All-America season at Duquesne, shot better than several big-name pros, including Australian Adam Scott (who was mentioned as pre-tournament favorite but finished at 18 over); Rich Beem (18 over) and Colin Montgomerie (18 over). Kokrak won two Division III state championships at Kennedy and was the Ohio High School Golfer of the Year in 2003.

Divided loyalties: Swing coach Butch Harmon had to serve two masters Friday. Harmon has been working the past several years with Scott, the No. 4 player in the world ranking. He began working about two months ago with three-time major champion Phil Mickelson. Just his luck, Mickelson and Scott played together the first two rounds. Even though Mickelson is the more celebrated and accomplished player, Harmon has gone to great lengths to say his priority was helping the 26-year-old Australian win his first major. Mickelson found an opening two spots down from Scott, separated only by Jeff Sluman. Harmon, however, headed straight for Scott and spent the next 10 minutes working with him, then switched over to Mickelson. Scott took triple bogey on the first hole on his way to an 82. Mickelson shot 40 on the back nine for a 77.
