Poland duo to attend
Baldwin-Wallace
Poland football standouts Chris Lovell and Mark Barnhart have made Baldwin-Wallace their college choice.
Lovell, a 6-foot-2, 200-pound QB-safety, led the Metro Athletic Conference in passing and helped the Bulldogs to a co-championship. He earned first-team all-league honors and was state honorable mention in Div. III. He’ll play in the Ohio-Pennsylvania All-Star Classic at Geneva College June 29.
Barnhart, a 6-3, 235-pound tight end-defensive back, was accorded All-Metro Athletic Conference first-team honors as well as NEO and all-state honorable mention recognition in Division III.
Lee Corso in town
GIRARD — Zarlingo Insurance will present an evening with Lee Corso, ESPN college football analyst, at a dinner at the Holiday Inn Metroplex Aug. 7 at 6 p.m.
For 15 years he has served as game analyst for GameDay on ESPN and he also served as a coach on the college and professional levels for 28 years.
Live and silent auction to feature sports memorabilia with proceeds from from the dinner and auction to benefit the Mahoning Valley Epilepsy fund and Potential Development program.
A single ticket will cost $75, while two can be bought for $100.

Cambouris named
wrestling ambassador
BOARDMAN — Sam Cambouris, a freshman wrestler at Boardman High School, has been accepted into the People to People Sports Ambassador Program.
Cambouris will train for two days in Vienna, Austria before a tournament at the Viva Sport Centre.

Kosiorek is hired
by Mechanicsburg
MECHANICSBURG — Chris Kosiorek, a graduate of Cardinal Mooney High School, was hired as head football coach at Mechanicsburg High.
Kosiorek previously was the defensive coordinator at Twinsburg High School.
In 2006 Mechanicsburg High went 11-2 and won the Ohio Heritage Conference title.

Indians sign top pick
CLEVELAND — Infielder Beau Mills, the Cleveland Indians first-round pick in this month’s draft, agreed Friday to a minor league contract with a signing bonus of $1,575,000.
Mills, the son of Boston Red Sox bench coach Brad Mills, was the No. 13 overall selection by the Indians.
Browns announce
training camp dates
BEREA — The Cleveland Browns will open training camp July 27 at their training facility.
Training camp practices are open to the public free of charge and will conclude Aug. 23.
The Browns will also hold Family Night at Cleveland Browns Stadium Aug. 3 at 7 p.m.

Hoeppner steps down
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — Indiana assistant Bill Lynch will replace football coach Terry Hoeppner, who is undergoing chemotherapy and radiation treatments after two brain surgeries in 18 months.
The 59-year-old Hoeppner is on his third medical leave from the team.
His latest absence, which began in mid-March, is the longest in his two seasons with the Hoosiers.
Hoeppner was admitted to the hospital several days ago and was expected to return home later Friday.
Lynch, who is offensive coordinator and assistant head coach, filled in for Hoeppner during his previous medical absences.
