Express beats Livi Steel for first ‘B’ victory


STRUTHERS — Chris Stewart struck out five over five innings to help lead Youngstown Express to its first win of the season, 5-1 over Livi Steel in a Class B game on Thursday at Cene Park.

Kevin Cox and Zach Kepple each added two hits for Express (1-13).

Garrett Malloy had two hits for Livi Steel (7-6).

Jim Kinnick (3-0) stretched his scoreless streak to 20 innings as he tossed a five-hitter with 10 strikeouts for Rondinelli Tuxedo (11-2), which scored four times in the fourth inning. Chuck Olesky, Matt Katich, and Cory McGinnis each added two hits for Rondinelli.

Garen Ream had a pair of singles for Wharmby (6-7) while John Thomas (1-1) went the first six innings for the loss.

Scooter Hargate homered and Joe Iacobucci singled, doubled, tripled and drove in three runs for R&J (12-2).

Ed Rohan added three hits and drove home three runs while Xavier Godoy added three singles. Scott Smith won his third game on the mound.

Josh Fyffe had a single and a double for Action (6-7).

Jeff Musick tossed a four-hit shutout with eight strikeouts to lead Dave Sugar Excavating.

Musick (1-1) also doubled and scored on a single by Paul Logar in the bottom of the fourth inning. Justin Shaffer added two hits for Sugar (6-7). Robert Goeke (0-2) went the distance for Roth (3-11), striking out three.

Astro Falcons 6, Simon Roofing 1

Drew Turocy had three hits, while Kolten Hoffman singled, doubled and had two RBIs for Astros (11-2).

Jason Simons went six innings and struck out four in winning his third straight. Anthony Ragozine (2-3) allowed three earned runs in 5 2/3 innings for Simon Roofing (4-10).

Astro Falcons 7, Livi Steel 0

Steve Schoenfield and Corey Susany combined on a five-hit shutout as the Astro Falcons defeated Livi Steel Wednesday at Wilder Park in Niles.

Schoenfield went the first six innings for his second win of the year. He had 10 strikeouts. Susany fanned three in his one inning.

Joe Bako, Mike Dota, D.J. Haurin, and Cameron Konop all had two hits each for Astros (10-2). Matt Kirkwood had a pair of hits for Livi (7-4).

Pittsburgh BTA 4-1

YOUNGSTOWN — Metros, behind 4-1 in the first game, rallied for two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning, but it wasn’t enough in Tri-State College League action at Pemberton Park.

John Mang hit a double and a single and Grant Sevek had two singles to pace the Metros. Scott Dunn hit three singles for BTA.

Mang scattered five hits with 13 strikeouts to pick up the win for the Metros in the second game.

Anthony Porter hit three singles and drove in a run for the winners. Armani Johnson hit a double.
