Probate Court Judge Timothy Maloney to retire
YOUNGSTOWN — Judge Timothy P. Maloney of Mahoning County Probate Court today announced he intends to retire on or about Sept. 30.
Judge Maloney, 58, of Boardman, is leaving office with 36 years of public service in Mahoning County, including 13 years as a Youngstown police officer, 4 1/2 years as a clerk and assistant staff counsel to the 7th District Court of Appeals, nine years as a magistrate, and 10 years as probate judge.
Echoing a comment from his colleague, Judge Maureen A. Cronin, a general division common pleas court judge, who is retiring July 1, Judge Maloney said it is time for some new blood in the probate court.
The judge said he is proud of the efforts he and his staff have made to modernize the court, which is now fully computerized and has a public Web site, where almost all nonconfidential documents filed with the court can be viewed.
The judge said he reduced the court’s general fund budget by more than 20 percent in 1997 and has kept the budget almost constant every year since then.
