Ytown committee approves two West Federal Street projects

YOUNGSTOWN — A city committee approved exterior designs for two major West Federal Street building projects.

Approval by the city’s design review committee of proposed exterior work of a building in the downtown area is required for a project to proceed, said William D’Avignon, the committee’s chairman and director of the city’s community development agency.

The committee today approved the Taft Technology Center’s exterior designs, that includes a large amount of green-tinted glass on the front of the building.

The high-technology building is to be completed by March 15, 2008. Ricciuti Balog & Partners, the Youngstown company designing the center, showed the committee members preliminary designs of the building.

The committee also gave the go-ahead to exterior designs of the former John R. Davis Building, just east of the Downtown Draught House.

The Sweet Jenny Land Co. is spending close to $500,000 for improvements to the 108-year-old building. The city expects to give the company $92,000 for that effort.
