GETTING IT RIGHT

Steven Small resigned as director of Stambaugh Auditorium on May 25. A story in Sunday’s Vindicator profiled Small and his plans for the facility as though he were still employed.

Corrections are never a highlight for a newsroom. But this one pains us even more.

The profile on Small appeared weeks after he departed for two primary reasons. One, The Vindicator held onto the story for a significant period of time. Two, no announcement came from Stambaugh officials about Small’s change in job status.

On our end, we will be wiser with stories that wait a significant period of time to get into the newspaper and check that certain facts are still accurate.

On B1 of today’s newspaper, there is a story about what’s next from Stambaugh officials.
