Shock 79, Sun 74
UNCASVILLE, Conn. — Katie Smith scored 23 points and Cheryl Ford added 20 points and pulled down 13 rebounds as Detroit beat Connecticut to remain the WNBA's only unbeaten team. The 6-0 start is Detroit's best ever and extends the Shock's winning streak to eight games dating to last season's WNBA finals. Shannon Johnson added 12 points and Swin Cash had 11. Asjha Jones scored 20 points and Lindsay Whalen 19 to lead Connecticut. The Shock and Sun combined for 52 fouls in a physical game. There were also three technicals. The Shock jumped out to a 10-2 lead to open the game, holding Connecticut to 1-of-9 shooting.
Fever 80, Liberty 61
INDIANAPOLIS — Tammy Sutton-Brown tied career highs with 22 points and 13 rebounds to lead Indiana over New York. Sutton-Brown, a seventh-year center signed as a free agent in the offseason, shot 10-for-12 from the field. Tamika Whitmore added 22 points and six rebounds for Indiana (7-1), which avenged its only loss. Sutton-Brown and Whitmore made up for an off night by Tamika Catchings. The league's No. 4 scorer was held to 14 points on 5-for-15 shooting. Erin Thorn led New York (5-2) with 17 points. The Fever led 63-46 in the fourth quarter before the Liberty went on a 15-8 run. A jumper by Thorn cut Indiana's lead to 71-61 with 4:39 left, but the Fever held the Liberty scoreless the rest of the game.
