Soccer recruit's story
earns TV appearance

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. — Slippery Rock University women's soccer recruit Dana Kiger will tell her amazing story of recovery from a brain injury Monday during an appearance on ABC-TV's “Good Morning America.”

Kiger and her parents, Jill and Terry, were to fly to New York City today and were scheduled to see a play before getting up early Monday to get ready for their national TV appearance.

The former Cincinnati Colerain High School player's story will reportedly be told shortly after the 8 a.m. news break.

Kiger steps into the national spotlight after being featured in Cincinnati Enquirer newspaper and Fox-19 TV feature stories in recent weeks. But she hasn't gotten caught up in all the excitement.

Monday's “just going to be another day as far as I'm concerned,” she said. “I don't want people to treat me any differently because of my situation.”

Kiger's situation began March 5, 2005, when she fell and hit her heard during a soccer game. She sustained a brain injury that led to a rare form of amnesia.

For the first few days after her fall, Kiger didn't know who she was or what had happened to her — that became shockingly apparent when she awoke at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center.
