DOCTORS

Podiatric medicine degree

Alison M. Joseph received a doctor of podiatric medicine degree May 25 from the Ohio College of Podiatric Medicine in Cleveland. She will begin a three-year residency at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. She received a bachelor’s degree in 2003 from St. Mary College, Notre Dame, Ind., and is a 1999 graduate of Ursuline High School. She is the daughter of Bruce and Karen Joseph of Boardman.

Receives pharmacy degree

Lance E. Smith was presented his doctor of pharmacy degree last month from the University of Toledo. Smith is the son of Larry and Karen Smith of East Palestine. He is a 2001 graduate and class valedictorian of Crestview High School. Smith graduated magna cum laude from Toledo’s school of pharmacy and was a fraternity member of Sigma Phi Epsilon. He also was a student council member of the college of pharmacy. He has accepted a position as staff pharmacist for Giant Eagle in the East Cleveland area and will live in Mentor.

Degree for JFK graduate

Christine A. Schiavone has received a doctor of pharmacy degree from the University of Toledo College of Pharmacy last month. Schiavone is the daughter of Dr. Anthony and Mrs. Phyllis Schiavone, who live in Howland. She is a 2001 graduate of John F. Kennedy High School in Warren. She graduated cum laude from Toledo’s school of pharmacy, where she was a member of the Academy of Students of Pharmacy, Lambda Kappa Sigma Professional Pharmacy Fraternity, Golden Key International Honor Society, the Ohio Society of Health-System Pharmacists, the Toledo Academy of Pharmacy and the American Pharmacists Association. Schiavone has accepted a pharmacist’s position with Walgreens Pharmacy in Westlake.

Earned high distinction

Emily Zura, daughter of Leo and Barbara Zura of Salem, graduated last month with high distinction with her doctorate in pharmacy from Ohio Northern University, Ada. During a recent Honors Day program, Zura received the Lilly Achievement Award, which acknowledges the pharmacy graduate with the highest grade-point average.

Physical therapy degree

Alicia F. White of Cortland received her doctorate in physical therapy from University of Miami last month. She is a 2000 graduate of Maplewood High School and a 2004 graduate of Baldwin-Wallace College, Berea, where she received a bachelor’s degree in athletic training and is a certified athletic trainer. White is the daughter of Rick and Cindy White of Cortland.

LAWYERS

Juris doctorate degree

Scott Kuboff, formerly of Hubbard, received his juris doctorate degree from Cleveland-Marshall College of Law at a ceremony at Cleveland State University last month. Kuboff, who served as president of the Student Bar Association, was a commencement speaker, along with the honored guest speaker, Timothy Russert, managing editor and moderator of “Meet the Press” and political analyst for “NBC Nightly News” and the “Today Show.” Russert is a 1976 graduate of Cleveland-Marshall.

Before enrolling at Cleveland-Marshall, Kuboff was an honors graduate from the University of Toledo, and an alumnus of St. Patrick and Ursuline High schools. He was recently named to the dean’s list and received two “Cali Excellence for the Future Awards” for outstanding achievement in the study of Advanced Brief Writing and First Amendment.

He is the son of Marty and Marilyn Kuboff, and the grandson of Joe and Ann Kuboff and Rocco and Mary Alexander, all of Hubbard.

Plans for private practice

Jason Despetorich, a 2000 Boardman High School graduate, has received his juris doctorate degree from the Thomas M. Cooley Law School. Despetorich received his bachelor’s degree in 2004 from the University of Toledo. While a student at Cooley, he was a semifinalist in the law school’s moot court competition. He is the son of George and Dianne Despetorich of Boardman, and he plans to enter private practice in Columbus.
