BASS CLASSIC| Top finishers


Forty-seven professional fishermen were paired with the same number of amateurs during Saturday’s benefit competition on Pine and Evans lakes to raise money for the Youngstown/Mahoning Valley United Way. The pros split a purse of $4,700, and amateurs were given gift certificates and other prizes. Those who made the top six catches on each lake:

PINE LAKE

First: Mike Bolevich, pro; Larry Macovitz, amateur; total weight: 20.82 pounds.

Second: Brett Pomeroy; Amir Bagheri; 18.11 pounds.

Third: Joe Discerni; Sean David; 17.87.

Fourth: Joe Lepley; Rich Pisani; 17.84.

Fifth: Al Masaitis; Tom Eckman; 17.66.

Sixth: Mike Gondel; Chris Herubin; 16.90.

Pro and amateur big bass prizes: Pomeroy, 7.59 pounds; Macovitz, 7.13 pounds, respectively.

EVANS LAKE

First: Brian McCormack; Bryan Stacey; 22.40.

Second: Bob Bowman; Todd Thompson; 16.06.

Third: Rick Vargin; John Masco; 15.21.

Fourth: Steve Zarbaugh; Rick Straley; 15.11.

Fifth: Jason Abbott; Josh Hartman; 14.70

Sixth: Jameson Lecon; Joe Bokas; 14.44.

Pro and amateur bass prizes: John Yohman, 7.55 pounds; Straley, 6.41 pounds, respectively.
