Girard woman charged in bribery of inmate

WARREN — A 49-year-old Girard woman who worked about eight years as a corrections officer in the Trumbull County Jail faces a felony charge of bribery for activities involving an inmate.

Phyllis A. DiTunno of Parkview Drive turned herself in Friday and was arraigned in Trumbull County Common Pleas Court after she was indicted earlier by a county grand jury.

She is charged with bribery, a felony, and illegal conveyance of a communications device (a cell phone) onto a detention facility, a misdemeanor. She pleaded innocent and was released on $5,000 bond. She is scheduled for a pretrial hearing before Judge W. Wyatt McKay Aug. 1.

Sheriff’s Capt. Tom Stewart conducted an investigation last October after a jail inmate informed officials that another inmate had a wireless phone in his cell.
