Mahoning juvenile day-reporting program returns

YOUNGSTOWN — The day-reporting program for youth who are at risk for juvenile delinquency has reopened after having been suspended two years ago due to a lack of funding and space, Judge Theresa Dellick of Mahoning County Juvenile Court announced today.

The summer and after-school program for boys and girls, ages 12 to 18, is funded entirely by state and federal grants. It began operating at the Boys and Girls Club of Youngstown, 2105 Oak Hill Ave., Thursday, said Robert Marchese, club executive director.

Participants will be taught alternatives to past negative behaviors, perform community service projects and visit museums, parks and libraries. The program will last 2 1/2 to 4 1/2 months depending on a participant’s performance.

The juvenile court will pay for a one-year membership in the club for program participants. For more information, call Timothy Novak, program director, at (330) 740-2244, Ext. 6484.
