Lt. gov: "There is no more important part of Ohio than the Mahoning Valley"

YOUNGSTOWN — In a visit to this city, Lt. Gov. Lee Fisher said “there is no more important part of Ohio than the Mahoning Valley.”

When asked today to elaborate, Fisher said, “This is a region that for a long time hasn’t received enough attention and resources” from the state.

Fisher said he and Gov. Ted Strickland, a Democrat who represented a portion of the Mahoning Valley in Congress for four years, will reverse that trend.

That means the Strickland administration will do what it takes to help the Valley compete for funding in the capital budget as well as state programs such as the Third Frontier, brownfield remediation and the Ohio Job Ready Sites program, Fisher said.

“I’m here to send a message to the area that Gov. Strickland and I are committed to the economic development of the area,” Fisher said. “...Youngstown and the Mahoning Valley are so important. We want to learn what’s important to the area and offer help.”
