Salem man dies in accident at his job

SALEM — The Mahoning County Coroner’s office and Goshen Township Police are investigating a fatal accident that occurred this afternoon at BOC Water Hydraulics Inc., 12024 Salem-Warren Road.

Owner Todd Olson declined to comment and referred calls to police.

David Yeagley, 38, of Salem, was killed when a piece of machinery fell on him at 1:49 p.m., crushing him, according to the coroner’s office. An autopsy was to be performed Friday.

Goshen Township Detective Sgt. Steven McDaniel said the victiim and other workers were installing a new piece of machinery. While moving it, the machine rocked and then fell on the victim, McDaniel said.

The machine had been lifted off Yeagley by the time police arrived. No other injuries were reported.

Units from the Damascus Volunteer Fire Department and private ambulances were called to the scene.
