Two local teams alive


Rondinelli Tuxedo can win the title with a two-game sweep today.

STRUTHERS — Simon Roofing and Rondinelli Tuxedo remain alive in the Connie Mack Tournament which may end today at Cene Park.

Tuesday, Simon Roofing pounded Professional Baseball Academy, 14-5.

Simon batters had 13 hits in the romp that puts their team in the final three.

Matt Durkin had a bases-loaded triple in the first inning and finished with three hits.

Frank LaRubbio also had three hits while Mark Novony had two hits and three RBIs.

Scott Foster had three hits for PBA.

Rondinelli 4, Stark 3

Rondinelli rallied for two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to remain the only unbeaten team.

The tying run scored on a sacrifice fly by Matt Katich while Josh Fyffe scored the go-ahead run on a throwing error.

Chuck Olesky had three hits for Rondinelli while Tyler Gilmore tossed a complete game with 11 strikeouts.

Joe Bodgewiecz had two triples as Stark was eliminated.

Today at 12:30 p.m., Simon Roofing plays Rondinelli Tuxedo. The winner will play Greenville Technology at 3 p.m.

If Rondinelli sweeps, the tournament ends today. Otherwise, another game will be played, possibly on Thursday.

Astro Falcons 2

Cory Nesbitt gave up three hits and two earned runs in the five-inning game.

Matt Katich had three hits while Olesky and Fyffe each had two. The win earned Rondinelli a berth in the Cincinnati regional.

For Astro, Joe Koch had two hits, one being a triple.

R&J Trucking 0

Monday, Fyffe picked up the win, going all seven innings, allowing three hits, walking two and striking out five.

Nesbitt and Olesky each had two hits for Rondinelli. Fyffe, Nesbitt and Cory Hitt tripled.

For R&J, Jarryd Summers picked up the loss, going six innings, giving up five runs, three earned, on eight hits, walking two and striking out seven. Matt Pitzulo had two hits while Scooter Hargate doubled.

Simon Roofing 8, Springfield 7

With the win, Simon Roofing clinched a berth in the Cincinnati regional. Mark Novotny picked up the win while Anthony Ragazine came on to record the save.

Ross Revella, Frank LaRubbio, Rich Tisone and Cory Johnson all had two hits for Simon. Tisone doubled and Revella tripled.

For Springfield, Loren Fleshman led the attack with three hits and an RBI. Juan Martinez and Tyler Mulder each added two hits apiece. Fleshman, Lee Kearns and Nate Anthony all doubled while Rinker tripled. Martinez hit a solo home run.

Stark 9,
Astro Falcons 7

The loss knocked Astro out of the tournament as Stark clinched a regional berth.

For Astro, Koch, Joe Bako, Mike Dota and Mike Kelly all had two hits. Koch tripled while Dota homered.

For Stark County, Kyle McMillen, Alex Caghan, Dan Henderson and Cody Irwin all had two hits.

Greenville 8,
R&J Trucking 0

R&J managed just two hits as the team was eliminated by Greenville Technologies in a five-inning contest.

Travis Shaw hit a two-run home run for Greenville in the first inning while Ryan Portwood struck out six in the shutout win. Adam Eaton tripled while Garrett Gray and Jordan Decter doubled.

Joe Iacobucci, and Xavier Godoy had the hits for R&J Trucking.

Stark Terriers 3

Jared Barker went the first four and two-thirds innings to get the win while Dom Silvestri picked up the save.

Matt Pitzullo tripled and doubled while Joey Wielbruda, Ed Rohan and Joe Iacobucci also had two hits each. R&J clinched a berth in the Cincinnati regional.

For Stark, Cody Irwin had three hits and Dan Henderson two.

Dave Sugar 0

Justin Shaffer, Mike Hoelzel and Todd Finn had Sugar’s only hits.

For Pro Baseball, J.T. Warmus and Justyn Ellsworth had three hits each while winning pitcher Andrew Hendershot tripled and doubled.
