Ozone or smog is created by the sun’s causing a chemical reaction in pollutants in the air. Examples of the most common sources of the pollutants are:
50 percent: Mobile sources, such as vehicles, farming equipment, trains, ships, lawn mowers.
25 percent: Point sources, such as electric generating units.
25 percent: Area sources (considered collectively), such as spray painting auto body shops or dry cleaners.
