Hot hitter: Scrappers cleanup hitter Todd Martin went 11-for-23 on the recent six-game road trip and is hitting .432 (16-for-37) with 10 RBIs over his last 10 games. Martin is second in the New York-Penn League with a .398 average and entered Tuesday’s game tied for the league lead both in home runs (six) and RBIs (26). Infielder Jansy Infante is ninth in the NYPL with a .340 average.

Streaking Scrapper: Infielder Jeff Hehr, who had five hits in the Scrappers’ 16-4 win over Tri-City on Monday, is batting .400 (10-for-25) in his last seven games, scoring six runs. Hehr is a Cardinal Mooney High graduate.

Penguin-stopper: Staten Island starter Ryan Zink, who was the Yankees’ 17th-round pick out of Illinois-Chicago in this year’s draft, threw a seven-inning no-hitter against Youngstown State as a freshman on May 16, 2004 at Eastwood Field. “He just challenges hitters,” said YSU assistant coach Craig Antush, who is also the scorekeeper for the Scrappers. “He doesn’t mess around.” Antush also pitches batting practice for Mahoning Valley and provided a scouting report on Zink for Tuesday’s game.

Darn Yankees: Staten Island was 16-10 all-time against Mahoning Valley entering Tuesday’s game, including a season sweep last season. They are 5-1 against the Scrappers since 2005 and have won the last two league championships and three of the last four.

Around the NYPL: Oneonta’s Guillermo Moscosco threw the second complete game nine-inning perfect game in NYPL history on Sunday — the first in 51 years. Warren Harding High graduate Justin Byler, who plays for State College, is 10th in the NYPL in batting with a .333 average in 23 games.
