Coal company donates money for waterline
NEW SPRINGFIELD — The East Fairfield Coal Company has announced it will donate $100,000 to the Petersburg Waterline Project. Tom and Denise Mackall of East Fairfield Coal presented a check to Springfield Township Trustees Gerald Guterba and Jim Holleran and Clerk Patty Gibson this past weekend at an open house at the company’s mine on Garfield Road. Cost of the waterline is estimated at $4.8 million and construction is scheduled to begin in January, though all the funding is still not in place. Construction of a sewer line also is slated to begin in Petersburg later this summer. Both projects will address long-standing problems with contaminated sewer and well water in the Petersburg area because of failing septic systems.
