ATM theft at St. E's foiled

YOUNGSTOWN — City police said Humility of Mary Health Partners police foiled the attempted theft of an ATM machine from the St. Elizabeth Health Center lobby on Belmont Avenue.

Hospital officers on patrol spotted a light blue van parked in front of the main hospital entrance around 7:30 p.m. Monday and saw two men run out of the front door of the building and jump into the van.

Close behind them came a hospital officer who yelled that the two had tried to take an ATM machine from the lobby. That officer jumped into the van, which began to move, throwing him out. He wasn't injured, police said.

Police said the van rammed the hospital cruiser in making its escape. It was last seen entering the Madison Avenue Expressway.
