Man hospitalized after reporting assault

YOUNGSTOWN — Paul N. Furgas, 44, of the 2900 block of Salt Springs Road, was in serious condition Sunday night at Akron Burn Center, where he was taken by LifeFlight on Sunday.

A police report said that Furgas ran into the Youngstown Police Station, 116 W. Boardman St., at 1:32 p.m. and told a patrolman in the lobby that he had been burned and assaulted.

Furgas was first taken by ambulance to St. Elizabeth Health Center, where he told the police he had been asleep and felt something hot.

Furgas told police two men were kicking him and poured something on him.

The reports lists the case as occurring under the Market Street Bridge near the Mahoning River.

Police searched that area along with the area near the Chevrolet Centre, under the South Avenue Bridge and the parking deck of the Legal Arts Building but could find no evidence of a crime scene.

Arson investigators will investigate.
