Giant Eagle scuffle leads to arrest

BOARDMAN — A Newton Falls man faces assault, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct charges after a scuffle in the checkout of a Doral Drive grocery store.

William Amatore, 52, was arrested Sunday afternoon after the altercation at Giant Eagle. He remains in the Mahoning County Jail and is to appear Tuesday in Mahoning County Court here. He is accused of punching another man, fracturing the man’s nose. The other man, 46, of Boardman, held Amatore on the floor until police arrived.

A police report said that Amatore talked of being angry with his brother. When police arrived, Amatore resisted being handcuffed and an officer used pepper spray to subdue him.

The store was evacuated for a short time because of the pepper spray.
