City man slain this morning

YOUNGSTOWN — Police are investigating the early morning shooting death of Justin Fields, 21, East Warren Avenue.

Fields was shot in the head while riding in a car driven by his cousin, Aundrey Fields, 22, of Steubenville. The pair were on Shehy Street around 2 a.m. today, police said.

Fields told police he didn't see anyone or any other vehicle, but heard shots and noticed his cousin had slumped over in his seat.

Police caught up with their car at Wick and Rayen avenues where it had stopped with a flat tire. Fields flagged them down, officers said. The vehicle had numerous bullet holes, most on the passenger side, police said.

It's the city's 18th homicide this year, compared to 16 this time last year.
