Columbiana MRDD to seek additional levy

LISBON — The Columbiana County Board of Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities hopes the voters approve a fifth request for money.

The board has started the process to put a new levy on the November ballot.

William Devon, the board’s superintendent, said today the district asks the public for an additional levy about every nine years.

The board has four levies in place, including one voters approved in May. That levy was first approved in 1981. It was made a continuous levy that reflects the increase in property values since the levy was first approved.

That gives the board close to its annual budget of about $12 million.
