Awards and achievements earned by local residents or former local residents:

YOUNGSTOWN — Michael Kerr, regional learning center coordinator for Humility of Mary Health Partners, was among 84 people nationally to

receive the Distinguished Disaster Team Member of the Year Award. It was presented by the National Disaster Medical System. Kerr is a member of the Disaster Medical Assist Team sponsored by St. Elizabeth Health Center. In the past, he has been deployed to locations such as the island of Guam for typhoon recovery and the Salt Lake City Olympics for strike team standby.

CANFIELD — Gregory Bestic, a principal of Schroedel, Scullin & Bestic CPAs, has been awarded fellow status in the American College of Forensic Examiners Institute of Forensic Science. The designation is the highest honor the organization can bestow on a member. Bestic is a certified forensic accountant.

AUSTINTOWN — Bernie Latosky of Austintown won the 2007 Signature Dining Award and the Star Achievement Award presented by Clarebridge Memory Care Residences. She is the dining manager for the Austintown center. She received the award for her excellence in all service categories and was selected out of more than 100 participants at company centers.

SAN DIEGO, Calif. — Noreen Maddox of San Diego, Calif., formerly of Youngstown, has been awarded the Adjunct Faculty Recognition Award at Southwestern College in Chula Vista, Calif. It is the college’s top award for part-time instructors. As part of the English department, Maddox is the coordinator of the college’s Learning Communities program and the 4MAT instructor.
