12,000 Ohioans to get payments

COLUMBUS — More than 12,000 Ohioans are eligible for restitution as part of a national lawsuit settlement against a mortgage company.

Attorney General Marc Dann and Commerce Director Kimberly Zurz said letters are being sent to those in line to receive the payments as part of a predatory lending case against Ameriquest Mortgage Co.

Claims must be made by Sept. 10, and a total of $7 million in restitution is available. Dennis Ginty, a commerce department spokesman, said payments range from about $122 to more than $2,400.

Ginty said anyone receiving claims letters should seek legal counsel before deciding to participate.
