Poland little leaguers head back to state


POLAND — The Poland little league softball all-stars won the District 2 championship at Boardman’s Fields of Dreams to earn a spot in the 11-12-year-old state tournament for the second straight season.

The team will play Englewood, the District 8 champion, at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday in Bucyrus.

The team is comprised of 13 girls who participated in the Poland Community Baseball Association little league division. The team has an 8-0 record, outscoring the opposition 88-10.

All 13 girls had at least one hit and scored a run in the eight tournament games. Team members are Marissa Trevis, Kasie Serich, Maura Bobby, Phoebe Bush, Leah Howard, Jessica Rutana, Madeline Christoff, Anna Barnhart, Emily Chandler, Kalie Benson, Meredith Tesone, Meredith Testa and Amber Isaacson. Gary Chandler is the manager with Jim Serich and Dave Howard serving as coaches.

Chandler, Benson, Trevis, Testa, Serich and Bobby were also members of last year’s team.
