McGee gets 21 years for murder

YOUNGSTOWN — A man convicted of murder with a gun specification, and of being a felon with a gun,has been sentenced to 21 years to life in prison.

Judge James C. Evans of Mahoning County Common Pleas Court imposed the sentence today on Gregory McGee, 23, of Selma Avenue, who was convicted in a May jury trial of fatally shooting Charles Bush, 21, of Lora Avenue, in the chest.

The available sentencing range for the charges was 18 years to life.

The murder occurred Aug. 25, 2006, in a second-floor apartment at 30 Saranac Ave. McGee, who will get credit for the 322 days he’s already been jailed, will be on parole for five years after he leaves prison.

During the trial, Detective Sgt. Douglas Bobovnyik, the first police officer to arrive at the shooting scene, testified Bush twice identified McGee as the man who shot him before Bush lost consciousness.
