Joe Cvengros leads Girard past P.I.&.I.


WARREN — Joe Cvengros went 3-for-4 with two runs and two RBIs to lead Girard Hardware to an 11-6 victory over P.I.&I. Express on Tuesday in Warren AA action at Packard Park’s McGregor Field.

Cvengros went the distance to get the win, giving up three earned runs on seven hits while striking out six.

Matt Vukovic also had three hits for Girard and Steven Hughes had two. Nick Cantarino had three RBIs and scored two runs, while Nate King also drove in three runs. Girard scored all 11 runs in the first two innings.

Andrew Wess had two hits and scored a run, while Chris Staley added two runs for Express. Todd Ruminski gave up nine runs in one inning to get the loss.

Tom Williams and Carmen DeChristofaro combined on a one-hitter for Mahoning Valley, which scored eight runs combined in the fifth and sixth innings.

Williams went 41⁄3 innings, striking out one and walking three while giving up the lone hit. DeChristofaro struck out one and walked one over the final 11⁄3 innings.

Rick DiMuzio had three hits and drove in two runs for the Knights. Steve Boxler added two hits and two runs, while Rock Monti also scored twice.
