Traffic stop ends in chase, arrest

YOUNGSTOWN — Police said an effort to stop a vehicle with darkly tinted windows ended with more serious charges against the driver when the man tried to flee.

An officer spotted the Chevrolet Suburban on Wick Avenue and attempted to stop it because the window tinting was too dark.

The driver, later identified as Ismael Camacho, 26, of Carnegie Avenue, Austintown, fled onto the Madison Avenue Expressway and got off at U.S. Route 422, continuing westbound.

Police said a passenger in the vehicle threw something out the window as it passed Wirt Street. Officers later found a loaded 9mm handgun at that spot.

Police said Camacho led them on a chase along Superior, Oakland and Seneca streets before he and his passenger jumped out of the vehicle and fled on foot. Both were caught in the 100 block of Superior.

Camacho was in Mahoning County Jail on charges of excessive window tint, driving under suspension, failure to comply with a signal of police and resisting arrest. His passenger was not charged with any crime, police said.
