This band has no problem with a little distortion

Social Distortion is alive and well in 2007.

In terms of music that emanated out of Orange County, the epicenter of the ’80s punk revival and a hotbed of ’90s alt rock, plenty of bands come to mind. Bad Religion’s sound remains Vans Warped Tour-friendly while The Offspring’s punk-based anthems have crossed over into the rock radio world.

Yet for the majority of its existence, Social Distortion, which plays July 19 at The Wedge, has remained on the sidelines of the mainstream. The Mike Ness-lead band has experienced enough commercial success – early ’90s hit singles include “Ball and Chain” and “Story of My Life,” along with 1996’s “I Was Wrong” – to attract a large fanbase without flooding the market with calculated punk tunes for the mall crowd.

Social Distortion will be at The Wedge July 19.
