Beaver Twp. assistant fire chief resigns

NORTH LIMA — Beaver Township trustees Tuesday accepted the resignation of Eric Carlson as assistant fire chief.

Township officials said Carlson recently was given more responsibilities at Dickey Electric, where he is employed full time and, as a result, has less time to devote to the fire department.

The township now has two key positions in the fire department to fill. Last month Fire Chief Gary Borman told the trustees he intends to retire sometime this year.

In other news, the trustees appointed Gerald P. D’Angelo II as a reserve police officer effective today, pendin completion of a criminal background check. Also, reserve police officer Michael Nulf was granted a leave of absence from the department because he has been reactivated by the Navy and will be going to Iraq later this month.

Once Nulf returns to the township, he may resume his position.

The trustees also agreed to place the 1.5-mill fire and EMS renewal levy on the Nov. 6 ballot. The Mahoning County auditor’s office has certified that if approved by voters, the renewal levy would generate $172,232.
