A penguin emerges from a stump at YSU

YOUNGSTOWN — A YSU groundskeeper has an eye for art.

After thunderstorms a few months ago knocked down or heavily damaged several trees around Youngstown State University, Gary DePasquale from the grounds department had an idea about how to salvage a damaged sugar maple tree.

He shared his idea with Gary and Lori Factor from the arts and sciences building, and they brought in artist Richard Cox of Edinboro, Pa.

The result: The maple tree stump is now a work of penguin art just east of Kilcawley Center.
