Man killed in shooting on South Side

He is Youngstown’s 16th homicide victim of 2007.

YOUNGSTOWN — Police are investigating the Sunday night shooting death of a man in the 3200 block of South Avenue.

Police said the victim was found behind some commercial buildings around 8 p.m. after people reported hearing gunshots.

The victim was taken to St. Elizabeth Health Center where he later died.

His name wasn’t released pending notification of next of kin.

Police said they did not yet know if it was a random shooting or the result of some disagreement.

It was the 16th homicide of the year in Youngstown, compared to 14 at this time in 2006.
