YOUNGSTOWN — The Mahoning County OVI (operating vehicle impaired) Task Force arrested two drivers at the sobriety checkpoint conducted Friday night. The checkpoint was conducted as part of an enforcement program to stop impaired driving in Mahoning County. It was held from 9 p.m. until 1 a.m. on Market Street, near Ravenwood.
Number of vehicles checked: 814.
Drivers tested for impaired driving: 6
Number of OVI arrests, 21 and over: 2
Average blood alcohol content: 0.153
Number under the legal limit: 4 (Of the four under the legal limit of 0.08 BAC, three were released and one was required to obtain a ride home from another sober individual).
Act 47 workshop
NEW CASTLE, Pa. — City council has scheduled a workshop for 6 p.m. Tuesday to discuss the Act 47 recovery plan. Along with council members, participants are to include the mayor, city controller, city treasurer, the administration, and representatives of Eckert Seamans Cherin & Mellott, LLC, and Public Financial Management, Inc. The session is to be held in council chambers at the city building.
Meeting date changed
LORDSTOWN — The board of education has changed its monthly meeting from July 18 to July 24. A work session will begin at 5:30 p.m. with the regular meeting to follow at the high school media center.
Grants awarded to VNA
YOUNGSTOWN — The Visiting Nurse Association of the Greater Youngstown Area recently received grants from the following: The Youngstown Foundation, Walter E. and Carolyn H. Watson Foundation, and the Ruth H. Beecher Foundation. The VNA plans to utilize the money for project expenses.
Established in 1904, the VNA is a nonprofit, United Way-funded, nonhospital-based home care agency that provides quality home health care services to community residents. Services of the agency include skilled nursing; home health aides; physical, occupational and speech therapies; wound care; and psychiatric nursing.
Allegiant Air passengers
VIENNA — Allegiant Air, which offers scheduled service to the Orlando, Fla., area from the Youngstown-Warren Regional Airport and others, and also serves the Tampa/St. Petersburg, Fla., and Las Vegas markets from other locations, reported increases in its preliminary passenger traffic results for June and the second quarter of 2007.
For example, there were 281,977 passengers using the airline’s scheduled service last month compared with 178,988 in June 2006. Passengers in the second quarter of this year totaled 753,716 compared with 476,174 for the second quarter of 2006, the airline said.
