SUMMER FESTIVAL Arts activities

The two-day ninth annual Arts Festival at and near Youngstown State University will feature amyriad of events, booths and things to see and do for people of all ages before wrapping up at 5 p.m. today. A sampling for today:

Mahoning Valley Historical Society: Will have a booth featuring artifacts, games and dress-up relating to the days of the Pioneers.

Children’s Museum of the Valley: Multicultural musical instruments will be displayed to encourage youngsters to recognize the universality of music. Facility is at 139 E. Boardman St.

YSU’s Center for Working Class Studies: Donna DeBlasio and Martha Pallante, authors of “Youngstown State University: From YoCo to YSU,” will conduct a book signing from noon to 3 p.m.; Sherry Linkon and John Russo, authors of “Steeltown USA: Work and Memory in Youngstown” and “New Working Class Studies,” will sign from 3 to 5 p.m.

Wick Neighbors Inc.: Will illustrate its plans from noon to 4 p.m. for building a creative neighborhood in the Wick District-Smoky Hollow Development.

Youngstown Opera Guild: Will host a silent auction regarding works of art. Bidding goes until 4 p.m. near Kilcawley Center.

Maag Library: Will have a book sale from noon to 5 p.m. outside the facility.

Chalk on the Block: Professional chalk artist Augusto Bordelois will work on a 12-foot-by-12-foot mural on the driveway of the McDonough Museum of Art, 410 Wick Ave., and will offer tips.

Butler Institute of American Art: Hours will be from noon to 4 p.m. Exhibits include “Lincoln the Railsplitter”.

Community Theaters of the Valley: Booths will have members of the Victorian Players, Oakland Center for the Arts and the Youngstown Playhouse to share more about their upcoming seasons. Music, vignettes and show tunes will be on tap.

St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church: Greek food, music and culture will be available at the church, 220 N. Walnut St.

New Beginnings Outreach: Will be the site of a worship service starting at 10 a.m. Church is at 322 Wick Ave.
